Line history
The line history chart shows how a selection's odds moved over time across multiple sportsbooks, letting you see where the market opened, how it drifted, and where it settled.
What the line history chart shows
Line history is a time-series chart embedded throughout SmartStake — in the Odds Screen, inside bet cards on the Positive EV and Smart Money tools, and in the alternate lines view. It plots each enabled sportsbook as a distinct coloured line on a shared time axis, so you can see how prices moved in relation to one another for a single selection.
The chart renders as a step function: each line holds flat until that book posts a new price, then jumps to the new value. A gap means the book had no price during that interval. Crucially, a line only holds flat while the book is still offering the selection — when a book stops offering it, the line ends at the last price posted and does not carry that price forward to the present. So a line running flat to the right edge means the book is still offering that price, while a line that stops short means the book has since pulled it. A dashed average line summarising all enabled books is drawn in the lower-left corner for quick reference.
When you hover over the chart, a crosshair snaps to the nearest data point and shows a tooltip with the exact book, odds, and timestamp. The right edge of the chart displays a small pill for each book with its current odds in your chosen odds format (American, decimal, or fractional).
Time windows
A dropdown at the top of the chart lets you choose how much history to display:
- 5 min — last five minutes; useful for watching a live line in real time.
- 10 min — default window for live markets.
- 1 hour — default window for pregame markets.
- 3 hours — useful for tracking pregame movement across the morning line.
- All — the full available history for that selection.
The chart auto-refetches every 30 seconds in the background, so lines stay current without a manual reload.
Book toggles
A row of sportsbook icon buttons sits between the time-window picker and the fullscreen button. Clicking an icon toggles that book on or off. The chart always keeps at least one book visible — it will not let you disable the last enabled book. When you hover an icon, the corresponding line is highlighted and all others are dimmed so you can isolate a single book's movement.
The books shown by default are drawn from your saved line history book preferences. The default set includes DraftKings, FanDuel, Betano, Bet365, BetRivers, Caesars, Pinnacle, Circa, theScore, and BetMGM. You can customise this list in settings, and whatever book a bet card originated from is always added to the toggle row even if it is not in your saved set.
Reading line movement
A line that moves sharply across multiple books in a short window — sometimes called steam — suggests a coordinated sharp-money signal: one book adjusts, others follow quickly. In contrast, a line that drifts gradually may simply reflect public betting volume or routine market maintenance.
Where a line settles just before game time is the closing line: the consensus price the market reached after all available information was priced in. Comparing the price you bet at to where the line closed is the concept behind closing-line value (CLV). Live vs. pregame windows
The default time window switches automatically depending on context: live markets open at 10 min, pregame markets open at 1 hour. You can change the window at any time without affecting other charts.
Fullscreen mode
The chart includes a fullscreen button (expand icon) in the top-right corner. Clicking it opens the same chart in a full-screen dialog with identical controls, which is helpful on small screens or when you want a closer look at a busy market.
